Advocate Milton is an all-round society conscious international criminal lawyer by profession. He is an advocate of over 21 years standing having been admitted to the Bar to practice as an Advocate in 1995. He belongs to the legal academia. He is currently the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Shepherd Bushiri International University of Arts, Science and Technology. His current research interest for his Doctor of Laws (LL.D) programme at the prestigious Faculty of Law of the University of Pretoria is based on the International Criminal Court. He has been the Founder Chairman & CEO of Centre for International Criminal Justice (Africa) in South Africa. He is a LEA-Accredited Senior Business Development Service Provider Consultant.
Advocate Milton is the Chief Operating Officer of SBI & Personal Legal Advisor (PLA) to the President of Shepherd Bushiri Investments PTY (Ltd) Int’l. He is also the Dean of the Faculty of Law of Shepherd Bushiri International University of Arts, Science & Technology
He has demonstrated exceptional brilliance throughout his academic career. He won the prestigious Hamilton Harrison & Mathews Merit Prize for being the Best First Year Law Student -academic year 1989/90. He graduated among the top candidates in his class with a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) (Honours) degree in 1993. In the same year, he won a University Staff Development Postgraduate Scholarship, and proceeded to research his first Master of Laws (LL.M) degree programme specializing in the realm of the international law of the sea, the law of international institutions, Law of Taxation, Insurance law and Environmental law. He had the exceptional privilege of being trained and supervised in his LL.M thesis by the internationally renown Law of the Sea expert and authority. As a tutorial assistant, he taught Law of Taxation to the 4th year LLB students at the University of Nairobi.
He passed the Advocates Bar examinations in 1995, whereupon he was ‘called to the Advocates Bar’ and was duly admitted to practise law as an Advocate of the High Court in the same year. He is an experienced and renown Advocate of over 21 years standing, having triumphantly acted as a private criminal defence counsel in innumerable landmark criminal cases.
Immediately after Law School he worked with a team of over 30 top lawyers in the law chambers of the international legal practise of Hamilton Harrison & Matthews Advocates. Later he was employed as a State Counsel in the Attorney-General’s Chambers during which time he drafted several bills (legislation) that were passed into law. As a Government legal advisor he tendered several important legal opinion/advise to the Hon. Attorney-General and cabinet ministers on significant national legal issues, on almost a daily basis. He was appointed an Expert Legal Draftsman & Advisor in the Peace & Security Committee of the Inter-Parties Parliamentary Group (IPPG), which was entrusted with the review and reform of the Constitution of Kenya.
Advocate Milton had the rare opportunity of undertaking his other Master of Laws (LL.M) degree programme, in 1997/8 at the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus, Bridgetown, Barbados in Caribbean America.
Advocate Milton has a formidable business background and experience in multifarious business interests in Southern Africa. He was Founder Managing Director & CEO of the first ever accredited private law school in Botswana, Gaborone University College of Law, which he founded alone in 2004 (but sold it off later). He alone designed the first ever BOTA accredited Certificate in law programme in Botswana.
He has published widely within the realm of legal academia. One of his outstanding publications is a “Handbook on the Constitution of Botswana: Questions and Facts” (ISBN 99912-0-418-0 ), which is a recommended text book for reference in schools including University of Botswana Constitutional law classes.
For several years he was lecturer in law for the University of London Bachelor of Laws External degree programme, which he taught at his own school in Botswana for several years.
He is Founder Director & CEO of Milton Properties (Pty) Ltd, owning property interests in Botswana, as well as Founder CEO of Instant Impact (Pty) Ltd a supplies company. He is also Founder Managing Director & CEO of Gaborone Legal Aid Centre, Botswana, which he has run since 2004 to date.
